The FogDragon has been developed to protect vineyards and orchards against radiation frost (springtime ground frost), which accounts for about 85% of all frost damage, furthermore, it was successfully used even in black frost. A single FogDragon is able to protect 10 hectares, with minimal operational costs and maintenance.
When the fuel – placed in the combustion chamber of the FogDragon – is ignited, the machine distributes the resulting heat and smoke in the plantation. The towing tractor drives the fan of the machine via the PTO shaft. The fan sucks in the air for combustion through the regulated air intakes and cools the air between the combustion chamber and the double-sided wall of the machine. The cooling air is mixed with the flue gas and thus a uniform temperature medium is created and dispersed. From the water tank, a high-pressure pump injects water into the outgoing hot air stream, thereby increasing the specific weight of the exhausted flue gas and creating water vapor thus helping to keep this insulating medium near the surface of the plantation. The layer of fog is highly efficient in insulating and thus preventing the radiational heat loss of the surface.
For the operation of the machine, any (non-compactable) biomass fuel with adequate heating value can be used, that is produced as a by-product in agricultural and horticultural production, that is not classified as hazardous waste.

Frost damage is a huge issue in the agricultural sector and being able to successfully protect the crop is a great advantage for farmers. The ability to offer a solution to this problem gives you an edge against your competition.
The FogDragon was used to fight frost damage through-out Europe for the past few years, with outstanding results. Here you can find a few examples (comments, reviews) from the farmers who protected their crops.
Géza, HUNGARY: I was the first to use the machine after it was developed. We measured -4ºC just outside the orchard where the machine was not used. The FogDragon was able to protect over 8 hectares of apple in those conditions.
Viktor, HUNGARY: I used the FogDragon to protect the orchard against frost damage. By midnight the temperature had already dropped to about minus 4-5ºC, and by dawn, it bottomed-out a little below -8ºC. It has lived up to our expectations, where the Dragon was used we expect a 100% yield of the crop.
Joel, GERMANY: Joel used his machine in early 2018 in Schallstadt, when the temperature dropped to -7,8ºC. His success was even reported by the local media.
Joze, SLOVENIA: We protected two and a half hectares of apples. When we were using the machine the sky was clear and the temperature was -3.6 degrees Celsius but lower down to the ground I think it was -4 degrees Celsius.

Gilbert, FRANCE: Gilbert has been using the machine for the past two years to fight frost in his orchard with success. He uses moist hay-stacks as fuel, thus increasing the water-vapor created.
Matthieu, FRANCE: Matthieu’s company was one of the first to acquire a FogDragon in France and soon after having one they had to use it when a -15ºC cold frost hit the orchard. They successfully protected a little more than 3 hectares.
